The Justice and Rule of Law activities at TransparencIT are designed to uphold the principles of fairness, equality, and accountability within a society. We work to establish a robust legal framework that ensures the equitable treatment of all individuals, regardless of their status.
Our efforts aim to promote transparency, impartiality, and adherence to established laws to prevent arbitrary actions and abuse of power. We believe these foster public trust in institutions and hold both state actors and organisations accountable for their actions. Through comprehensive monitoring programs, legal reform campaigns and civic engagement, we are creating a just and equitable society in Nigeria where the rights of every citizen are protected and the rule of law prevails.
Since its inception in 2016, we have pioneered a groundbreaking program for monitoring trials of corruption cases, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria. Notably, we’ve developed the first online national database of corruption cases (https://corruptioncases.ng/), amassing a comprehensive record of over 4,000 cases. In 2023, we expanded our commitment to response to the shrinking civic space by launching the Civic Space Watch initiative. This project is dedicated to monitoring and documenting in a live dashboard the actions of state actors, specifically by tracking the arrests, detentions, and trials involving activists, journalists, and ordinary citizens, thus safeguarding the rights and freedoms of individuals within our society.
